yarn photos

next spinning project

I have some undyed varied wool rovings (and maybe top) that I'm going to spin up next. I'm actually not sure what the wools are, since they are unlabeled after being in storage for quite some time. I decided to use them to learn long draw woolen spinning and how to 3-ply, so that's my challenge!  I have six ounces of natural brown coopworth (or corriedale, not sure), 4 ounces of a gray blue faced leicester or corriedale, and 8 ounces of natural white blue faced leicester or corriedale. I started on the brown yesterday, and have the first of three bobbins nearly done. Longdraw is fun, and fascinating to watch!

Notre Dame Swatch Cap

I'm planning to knit the Notre Dame pullover for my husband, and knit the Notre Dame cap pattern as a swatch. It's so warm! The lower band of color is doubled by ribbing, and the upper band is at least three strands of yarn, sometimes 4, so it's dense and warm. Great project!

More handspun

Fiber Optics Merino/silk gradient: gold, copper, mulberry, plum; 2-ply, about 410 yards

handspun

I'm trying for a finer weight yarn this time around--laceweight if I'm being as consistent as I'd like to think. We'll see. The fiber is 80/20 merino/silk from Fiber Optic--it's a gradient: plum, mulberry, copper, gold. Pretty. I'm halfway done!
